Normand Saindon and Phil Brienza Jr., electricians with the City of Lewiston, begin the installation of 36 LED lights at City Hall on Thursday morning. Pine Street will be closed in front of City Hall through Friday while the electricians install equipment to light the tower and copper dome. Crews will return Sept. 19-20 to install lights on the Park Street side, but one lane will remain open to traffic, said Gerry Caron, senior city electrician for the city. The $45,000 project is financed by a fundraising project launched in 2012 by former Mayor Laurent Gilbert. Lewiston’s cost for electricity to light the tower from dusk to dawn will be about $1,000 per year, said Caron. Cote Crane of Auburn donated the use of the crane.
Two styles of LED lights are being installed outside City Hall.
