Maine Table Tennis League
 
The Maine Table Tennis League will officially begin its 18th season on  Monday, Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Avenue. Entrance is at the rear of the building near the ballfield. The League invites anyone who wants to participate in the sport for competition exercise or just for fun to sign up.
 
Dues is $40 for adults and $30 for players 12 and under and are due at the time of registration. The season runs from September through May. Practice times are available throughout the year.  Everyone is invited to join regardless of playing ability The he League has various levels of competition.
 
League play is on Monday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Practice times are Tuesday through Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
 
The Maine Table Tennis League is sanctioned by the USATT (United States of America Table Tennis) to hold tournaments. Ten professional tables are available for play at all times. The League supplies balls for play as well as a robot for members to practice on their own.
 
For those needing paddles or supplies, the league has them available at reduced prices. Members of the League include the State of Maine male and female champions
 
Players are asked to change sneakers before playing, which means they should carry an extra pair of footwear to change into. This alleviates damage to the Armory’s painted floor and prevents tracking in grime, dirt and sand.

Central Maine Slot Cars

The Central Maine Slot Cars League is taking names and phone numbers for fall and winter league racing. Racing will be bracket style racing. Must have own car to take part in races. Please call us at 207-782-2422 to sign up!

 
Punt, Pass & Kick competition

Young pro football fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when the Rumford Parks and Rumford Lodge of Elks #862 host an NFL  Punt, Pass & Kick competition on Sunday, Sept. 15.

The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 6 through15.

It will be held at Hosmer Field at 9 a.m. for boys and girls age 6-11 followed by the 12-15 year olds at 10 a.m. Registration begins a half hour before competition starts. Each participant must fill out a registration form and have it signed by their parent or legal guardian. They also must give a valid copy of their birth certificate in order to compete. Entry forms will be available the day of the competition.Coaches of AYF football teams will also have copies of the forms as well.

The top finishers from each of 10 age groups at the local competition will advance to a sectional competition. The winners at the sectional competition will have their scores compared with other sectional champions. The top four scores from the pool of sectional champions advance to the New England Patriots Team Championship.

Age group champions at this level will be declared NFL  Punt, Pass & Kick team champions.  The top four finishers in the boys’ and girls’ divisions within each age bracket form the pool of Team Champions will qualify for the national finals at an NFL playoff game in January.

Auburn Men’s Middle League
NAPA batteries went a perfect 3-0 in the winners bracket to face off with Fire House Grill out of the loser’s bracket for the Auburn Men’s Middle league 2013 Championship, slated for next Wednesday at Pettingill park. State Farm (seventh seed) finished third to around it out.
 
Field Hockey Fall Skills
The Maine Field Hockey Academy will hold a Fall Skills Academy for girls pre-k through the sixth grade at Thomas College in Waterville on Monday nights beginning on Sept. 9. Celebrity golf in Boothbay

Local and Nationally known sports legends and Hall of Famers are making arrangements to meet in Boothbay for the 23rd annual Boothbay Charities Classic Golf Tournament, Lobster Bake and Sports Auction from Sept. 27 through the 28. All proceeds will go to benefit Special Olympics Maine.
 
This years event will kick off on Friday afternoon with a New England lobster and clam bake with the participating celebrities. If you are playing golf, the cost of the lobster bake is included in your entrance fee. The Public is welcome to purchase tickets to lobster bake and auction by calling Brenda Blackman at 633-6280.

A silent sports auction will be available for public viewing and bidding from 3:30 through 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Railway Village Meeting Hall. (Results will be announced later that evening) All fans are welcome. The Lobster Bake will take place under the big top at the Railway Village on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. Chicken is also available.

Some of this years auction items include: Autographed footballs by Dick Butkus, Troy Aikman and Troy Brown; Autographed baseballs by Greg Maddux, Curt Schilling, and Dennis Eckersley; Jerseys autographed by Bill Lee, Tom Seaver, and Bo Jackson; and a basketball signed by Sam Jones.

Celebrities attending the 2013 tournament will include: Bob Allietta of California Angels and Cleveland Indians, Bob Capadona of the Patriots and Buffalo Bills, Larry Eisenhauer of the Patriots, Cindy Chaot, Ron “Haystacks” Hall of Steelers/Patriots, Ted Hendricks Raiders, Ken Hodge from the Bruins, Raiders Marv Hubbard, Peter Ladd, Red Sox Great Bill Lee, LA Rams Tom Mack, Stump Merrill, Steve Minich, Dolphins/Colts Earl Morrill, Jeff Nelson, Dave O’Brien, Jeff Peterson, Dott Petty, Scott Price, Oakland Raider Otis Sistrunk, Lenny St Jean, Tom Stepehens, Dan Sullivan, Paula Truman, Rick Volk, Garo Yepremian of the Dolphins, Maury Youmans, and Kathy Davidson. Team openings and limited individual golfer positions are still available for Saturday mornings golf tournament, which includes guaranteed pairing with a celebrity, an awesome goodie bag provided by tournament sponsors, and a seat at Friday night’s lobster bake and sports auction.
