1913 – 2013
PERU — Elizabeth M. Child, 99, of Dickvale Road, passed away at her home on Thursday, Sept. 5, surrounded by her family and dear friend, Laura. She lived in Peru for more than 70 years in the family home.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1913, in Manchester, N.H., the daughter of the late Fred and Ruth (Bowley) Eastman. She worked for a few years at Diamond Match in Peru, then raised her family. On Nov. 15, 2011, she was presented the Boston Post Cane for becoming Peru’s oldest citizen.
She was married in Peru on Dec. 8, 1934, to Norman Child, who passed away June 25, 1988.
She is survived by two sons, Edwin and his wife, Belle, and Dale of Peru; a daughter, Jacqueline McLean and her husband, Russell, of Peru; two sisters, Olive Harris of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Ruth Lieberman of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Edwin, Arthur and Albert Eastman, and Richard Page; one granddaughter; and a great-grandson.
