LEWISTON — Alan M. Churchill, 68, of Lewiston died Sept. 2 at Central Maine Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 20, 1944, the middle son of the late Ralph and Shirley Churchill. He attended schools in Minot and Auburn, graduating from Edward Little High School with the class of 1963. He then attended Boston University, majoring in music. He returned to Auburn and worked at various clerical and office jobs. He eventually moved to Augusta, taking a position with the state of Maine as a computer operator. He was a member of the First Universalist Church, Universalist-Unitarian, of Auburn, where he was quite active, as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was a frequent flute soloist. He also enjoyed travelling, taking driving vacations to the national parks in Utah, Colorado and other states as well as Cape Cod. He was an avid reader and had an extensive collection of Louis L’Amour novels. He was fascinated by covered bridges and visited many located east of the Mississippi River. He liked taking hikes to find waterfalls in Maine and New Hampshire. He contributed generously to numerous charitable organizations but was especially interested in and supportive of the National Wildlife Federation and the World Wildlife Federation. In his last years, he enjoyed watching television and riding the bus in Lewiston.
