1937 – 2013
CANTON — Carrie D. Child, 75, died in Canton on Thursday, Sept. 5, as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was a resident of Third Street in Dixfield and lived in Peru most of her life.
Born in Dixfield on Oct. 23, 1937, she was a daughter of Gordon and Elinor (Cole) Drury. She was a graduate of Dixfield High School and attended Husson College.
She worked as a clerk for W.T. Grants, Sampson’s and Shop ‘N’ Save. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She would go without, so others would have more.
She was married on April 13, 1958, to George Preston Donahue, who died in April 1971. She was then married in Peru on July 1, 1972, to Howard Child.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Donahue and her companion, David Gallant, of Roxbury and Colleen Bernard and her husband, Daniel, of Peru; three sons, Gordon Donahue of Tennessee, Richard Donahue and his wife, Denise, of Dixfield and Shane Child and his companion, Candy Bradbury, of Mexico; and grandchildren, Nicole Donahue, Richard M. Donahue, Nicholas Gallant, Casey Child, Olivia Child, Jared Bernard, Neil Priest and Travis Robbins.
She was predeceased by her first husband, George Preston Donahue; a son, Matthew Donahue; a brother, Richard Cole; and a sister, Roberta Palmer.
