A diver talks with a worker on a barge, center left, in the Androscoggin River just above the railroad trestle by the Great Falls between Lewiston and Auburn on Monday afternoon. According to Kevin Capponi, project manager for Bancroft Contracting Corp. of South Paris, the crew is creating cofferdams to enable other workers to jackhammer out old metal rods that will be replaced with an inflatable flashboard system to better control the flow of water. Due to the fast-moving water in June from heavy rains, the project had to be put on hold at times. Unless there are more issues with the weather, the three-year project, which included upgrades to three dams in the area, should be complete by the end of November.
