TOPSHAM — With the score tied 2at two and time dwindling down, Lewiston’s Abdulkarim Abdulle buried one into the back of the net off a free kick to lift the Blue Devils past Mt. Ararat, 3-2.

A holding penalty was given in favor of Lewiston (2-0) with a minute left in regulation. Before the Eagles could blink, the kick was sent across the field by Abdibaari Hersi and was buried into the back of the net. Mason Griffin had his work cut out for him, facing 12 shots and stopping seven for the Eagles (1-1).

Leavitt 4, Morse 2

BATH — Morse got off to a quick one-goal lead in the first half, when Tyler Roux answered back within the next minute, giving Leavitt the momentum as they shot past Morse 4-2 in boys’ soccer action.

Tyler Roux had two goals on the day while Reilly Burgess drilled one into the top right corner for the Hornets (1-1). Ben Fullerton recorded six saves in net for Leavitt.

Chris Paulus was the bright spot on the Shipbuilders’ side, scoring both goals unassisted for his team in the loss.

Girls’ soccer

Mt. Abram 3, Mountain Valley 2

RUMFORD — Mt. Abram erupted with three goals in the second half and slipped away with a 3-2 victory over Mt. Abram in a girls’ soccer season opener Monday.

Katie Jordan, Emma Huston and Alora Ross each scored a goal for the Roadrunners.

The Falcons got on the board first in the first half when Shannon Laubauskas scored on an assist by Sara Klein. Mountain Valley added another goal in the second half when Kaitlyn Virgin scored her unassisted goal.

Monmouth 4, Lisbon 0

MONMOUTH — Kylie Kemp made quick work of Lisbon, drilling two goals in the first seven minutes of the game as Monmouth topped the Greyhounds 4-0 in girls’ MVC soccer.

Kemp added her third goal of the day, sliding through the last three Lisbon defenders and earning the hat trick with 13 minutes left in regulation.

Haley Fletcher joined in Kemp’s efforts, adding a goal of her own in the second half for the Mustangs (2-0). Ally Sult stopped seven shots on the day for the Greyhounds (0-2)

Mt. Ararat 4, Lewiston 0

LEWISTON — Junior Libby Ouellette held nothing back Monday night, scoring two goals as Mt. Ararat outgunned Lewiston 4-0 in girls’ soccer action. Erin Tome was a key piece to the Eagles offense, assisting Ouellette on her first, and adding one on her own.

Mt. Ararat’s defense didn’t have much to worry about with Laurin Williams stopping all three shots she faced for the Eagles (2-0), and the offense providing 22 shots on net. Ally Frechette was the noteable player for the Blue Devils (0-1-1), recording 14 saves in net.

Field Hockey

Lewiston 3, Brunswick 0

BRUNSWICK — Lewiston’s offense spread the ball around the field well on Monday, using three different players to score as the Blue Devils topped the Dragons 3-0 in varsity field hockey.

Kasey Talarico, Abbie Loisel and Desirae Roy all netted a goal for the Blue Devils (1-2), while Jenessa Talarico did her part in assisting all of them. Lewiston’s offense dominated the game, belting 17 shots on Brunswick goalie Jordan Van Savage, who stopped 10.

Winthrop 2, Dirigo 1

WINTHROP — Rachel Ingram and Emmah Spahr connected in overtime for the go-ahead goal, as Winthrop snuck away with a 2-1 victory over Dirigo in MVC field hockey action.

Kelsey Stoneton scored the first goal for Winthrop, while Alyssa Arsenault got it done in net for the Ramblers (2-0), stopping 10 of 12 shots she faced. Brittany Lapointe tallied the only goal for the Cougars (0-2), assisted by Kelsey Wilson.

Spruce Mountain 4, Oak Hill 1

JAY — Kayla Meserve scored a pair of goals as Spruce Mountain dismissed Oak Hill with a 4-1 victory in a field hockey game Tuesday.

Randi Duguay and LaDesta Tracy each scored a goal and earned an assist for the Phoenix.

For Oak Hill, Abby Asselin scored on a Kylee Veilleux assist.
