1945 – 2013

GRAY — Philip Pulsifer passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Philip was born the son of Philip and Kathryn Chick Pulsifer on Aug. 12, 1945. He grew up in Limington and graduated from Bonney Eagle High School in the Class of 1963. He served in the Navy from 1963-67.

He was hired by Winn Logging Company, which started his interest in the woods. He became a self-employed woodsman and logger for many years. He later worked as a mechanic for Nissen’s Baking Company and Humpty Dumpty Potato Chips.

Philip, better known as “Ozzie,” was a jack of all trades. He drove a school bus for many years for the Lake Region, Windham/Raymond, Gray/New Gloucester and Freeport. During this time, he maintained his side businesses, which included backhoe, tree work and maintenance on lawn mowers and chainsaws.

Ozzie was a member of the Gray American Legion. He was a former little league coach and church youth leader. He was also very active in town politics.

Ozzie loved hunting and spending time at Cole Farms with his buddies. He loved working with his Belgian horses, Jake and Dolly, in the woods and was an avid race car fan. His grandchildren were most important to Ozzie, he made sure he attended every event he could. One of Ozzie’s favorite places was “Cozy Corner” at Hogan Pond and spending time there with “Honey Bee.”

Ozzie is survived by his wife, Jean Pulsifer of Gray; daughter, Rebecca and Derek Maynard; son, James Pulsifer; Stacy Strattard, Steve and Brenda Wilbur, Beth and Rob Ganley; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Francis Mee and Sylvia Bouchy.

He was predeceased by sisters, Majorie Lear, Ruth Jones and Beverly Braley.
