1939 – 2013
BRYANT POND — Ann Hastings Morton, 74, of Bryant Pond, died at her home on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
She was born to Robert D. and Florence Bickford Hastings on April 18, 1939, in East Bethel. Ann graduated from Gould Academy in 1956 and University of Maine at Orono in 1960. She married David L. Morton in 1960.
Ann was a committed educator and counselor in the Rumford school system. She loved to travel and visited numerous countries with her husband and children. She also led many educational tours for her students and others in the community.
Ann was an active member of the Rumford Point Congregational Church. She had a lifelong commitment to Gould Academy as a member of the alumni board, trustee and class agent.
Ann was the founding member of the Dairy Heirs, a group of family and friends who has participated in the Revlon Walk for Womens’ Cancer in New York City for the last six years, in support of the fight against breast cancer.
Most of all, Ann was devoted to her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, David; and her three children, Pamela Rowinski and Thomas Morton of Longmont, Colo., and Paul (Danielle Tran) Morton of Norway. She adored her four grandchildren, Jacob and Emma Rowinski of Longmont, Colo., and Jack and Samuel Morton of Norway. In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Mary-Alice (Al) Bancroft of Paris Hill and Virginia Gamble of Bethel; her brother, Robert (Betty Ann) of East Bethel; and her sisters-in-law, Mary (Carl) Cowan of Standish and Margaret Stires of Livermore, as well as legions of other relatives and beloved friends.
