LEWISTON – Lewiston/Auburn Social Media Meetup is growing in size and popularity so quickly, another event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30.

“We had more than 100 people show up at our last event and people keep asking, ‘When is the next one? Are you going to have another?’ So we worked very quickly to get another meetup planned and scheduled,” says meetup founder, Larry Gilbert Jr.

This fifth meetup for the year will happen at one of the area’s newest restaurants, Orchid, at 29 Lisbon St.

“We’re new to this area and love being right in the heart of Lewiston’s business district,” says Minh Nguyen, owner of Orchid. “This is an excellent opportunity for us to connect with and network with our community.”

Lewiston-Auburn Social Media Meetup holds regular social events at locally owned restaurants and bars in the downtown area. Gilbert founded the group as a way for participants to get off their computers and smart phones for a bit and cultivate face-to-face conversations and connections with others involved in social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

“This is the first of its kind group for the greater L/A area. These types of meet-ups have been gaining popularity in larger cities around the country and are key opportunities for many in-the-know business professionals as well as those looking to expand their social circle,” said Gilbert. “Starting a group like this, I thought, would show the rest of the state and country that L/A is on the social media map too.”

Orchid is providing free snacks and will offer Baxter Brewing Co. beer specials at the Sept. 30 event. The Asian food restaurant also has a full menu and bar. All events are 21-plus and free to the public.
