RANGELEY — Tiki White of Phillips is the new town manager.

She was named acting town manager after Tim Kane resigned July 19 to take a school superintendent’s position in Washington County. He was appointed town manager in May 2011, coming from Concord, Vt.

The Board of Selectpersons voted 3-2 at a special meeting Monday to appoint White, Selectperson Shelly Lowell said Thursday. Voting for the appointment were David Burgess, Gary Shaffer and Nathan Nichols.

Lowell said she and Selectperson Pam White opposed the appointment because the board did not advertise the position widely.

The board will negotiate White’s salary and contract in an executive session at its meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Town Office. If there is any action on the contract, it will be done in public, Tiki White said.

White, 34, grew up in Phillips. She is a 1997 graduate of Mt. Abram High School in Salem Township. She and her husband, Donnie Beedy, have two dogs.

She has worked at the Rangeley office for seven years. Prior to that, she worked in human resources at the Good-Will Hinckley school.

White started out as an administrative assistant to the town manager, first with Rangeley Town Manager Perry Ellsworth and then Kane. She also became the General Assistance administrator and the manager of the Stephen A. Bean Municipal Airfield in Rangeley.

She has been juggling those positions and acting town manager.

“It is just a fabulous opportunity,” White said of becoming manager. “I’m just proud they have that belief in my abilities.”

During her employment with the town, she has done human resources, insurances and assisted town managers, among other tasks.

The town plans to hire a part-time administrative assistant. White said she will be getting an advertisement out soon for the position.
