1918 – 2013

TAMPA, FLA. — Remi L. Plante, 95, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, at  Woodbridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Tampa, Fla. He was formerly of Rumford.

Born in Rumford on Sept. 5, 1918, he was the son of Ulric and Mabel (Roussin) Plante. He was a 1936 graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46. He was employed at the main coated division of the former Oxford Paper Co. in Rumford for several years and then for Chandler’s Department Store from 1946 to 1973 and finally for Western Maine Transportation, until his retirement in 1981.

He was a member of Robert Shand Post 1641 VFW, former member of Blazing Star Lodge 30 AF & AM and Lodge of Perfection, Prince of Jerusalem and Rose Croux Dicky Chapter, Valley of Lewiston and 32nd Degree Maine Consistory and Valley of Portland.

He was married in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 28, 1975, to Grace A.C. Dunn, who died in Tampa, Fla., on Dec. 21, 2002.

Survivors include a son, Russell Plante of Kittery; three daughters, Maribeth Taylor and her husband, Stanton, of Willard, Ohio, Holly Waddles of Tampa, Fla., and Deborah Greenlaw and her husband, Al, of Stonington; a sister, Miss Lucille Plante of Provincetown, Mass.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
