BETHEL — Alyssa Paetau, M.D., general surgeon, will discuss “Recognizing Problem Skin Moles” from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Bethel Congregational Church, 32 Church St. To Your Health of Western Mountains Senior College is holding this program in response to concerns of participants of past To Your Health programs.

Paetau said, “According to the Skin Care Foundation, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime.” She will talk about problem skin moles and explain what skin changes one should look for and what to report to the doctor. She will also discuss the most common types of skin cancer and answer questions on sunscreens, tanning beds and skin self-exams.

Paetau joined the medical staff at Stephens Memorial Hospital and Western Maine Surgery in August 2012. She received her medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine and completed her surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic.

To Your Health of WMSC sponsors this program as a community service with the collaboration of Bethel Family Health Center, MSAD 44/Continuing Education and Maine Health Learning Resource Center of SMH. The public is invited and admission is free. Light refreshments available.

Future programs in this year’s To Your Health series include: “How to Keep the Holidays Happy: Managing the Holiday Blues,” Nov. 7; “Fat Facts About Your Blood Chemistry and What You Can Do About it,” Feb. 6; “Spring into Spring with Colorful Foods,” March 6; and “From Sneezes to Kegels – Issues with Urinary-Gyn Health,” April 3. All programs are scheduled at the Bethel Congregational Church from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
