LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine at 130 East Ave. is offering the following new programs.
Health, Happiness, & Hula Hoops: A seven-week program that is more than just exercising. It will bring laughter, build confidence and self-esteem while taking inches off your waist, arms and legs. This great cardio workout incorporates the fun of hula hooping. The first class is a two-hour workshop where students will make their own hoop. The subsequent six classes will be learning to hoop in a fun and supportive environment. It will be held Tuesdays from Oct. 1 to Nov. 12. The first session will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with the remaining from 6 to 7 p.m. Cost of $75 includes the hula hoop.
A Free Hoop Jam will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19. Bring a nonperishable food item to help us stock up a local food pantry in time for the holidays.
Certified dog trainer Martin Neely will hold dog training classes on Monday evenings beginning Sept. 30 for six one-hour classes. Classes will be at 6 p.m. for puppies or beginner dogs that have never had training and at 7 for intermediate or advanced dogs.
With more than 25 years of dog training experience, no behavior problem is too big. Fee is $100 per session. Basic obedience and problem behaviors will be addressed.
“Miss Judy” will teach the popular American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Plus class. The course teaches the basics of safe, fun childcare. Participants will receive ARC Certification in Child and Infant CPR upon successful completion of the class. It will run Fridays, Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Cost is $75 for members of the YWCA, $90 for nonmembers. It is open to boys and girls ages 11-15. Bring a bag supper.
