1934 – 2013
ZEPHYRHILLS, FLA. —Ivan E. Smith, 79, of Old Sumner Road in Buckfield, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 23, at Gulfside Hospice House in Zephyrhills, Fla., after complications with multiple myloma cancer.
He was born in Buckfield, Sept 25, 1934, son of the later Ralph and Lillian Smith.
He was educated in Buckfield schools. Prior to retirement, he was employed with Maine Apple Growers of Buckfield for 40 years.
He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed taking cross country trips, camping and photography. He has a passion for garden railroading and was a member of the Maine and Florida garden Railroad Club. He has a beautiful railroad garden at his home in Buckfield and on occasion has opened it for public viewing.
He was a member of the Buckfield Masons and a member of the Buckfield Snowmobile Club.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Curtis Smith; four sons, Dick Smith and wife, Paula, Randy Smith and wife, Julie, Dale Smith and wife, Debra, Danny Smith and fiancée, Sandy Kimball; three sisters. Ruthanne Little of North Carolina, Marie Downing of Florida, Janice Hanson of Florida; three brothers, Bruce Smith of Nevada, Holmes Smith of Hebron, Lee Smith of Colorado; five grandchildren; and six great-grand children.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Smith, of Mechanic Falls.
