FARMINGTON — A Wilton man is charged with trespassing at an apartment on High Street on Sunday and then ripping apart a jail mattress cover with his teeth, according to a police report Monday.

Matthew P. Dyke, 21, was arrested on a charge of criminal trespass after he walked into an apartment without knocking at around 3:17 a.m. Sunday. He was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center where police say he ripped apart a plastic mattress cover with his teeth. A charge of criminal mischief was added, according to the report.

When police found Dyke, 21, on Lake Avenue he refused to give his address, Farmington Police Department secretary Rachel Heseltine read from Officer Justin Blais’ report.

Blais responded to a call from an apartment at 216 High St., where occupants said an unknown intoxicated man with a large cut on his face walked into their bedroom just after 3 a.m. The residents told him he was in the wrong apartment, but he wouldn’t listen, according to the report. They escorted him out but he wanted to fight. The occupants called police, saying they last saw the man walking on High Street toward the university, according to the report.

Police found Dyke on Lake Avenue and arrested him on the criminal trespass charge and took photos of his forehead. He did not receive medical treatment, Heseltine said. He was charged with criminal mischief after he destroyed the mattress, she said.

Dyke was released Sunday on $3,000 unsecured bail and is expected to make a court appearance Nov. 6.
