JAY — The Daughters of Isabella Circle 677, St. Rose of Lima Parish, held the September business meeting recently. Chancellor Laurieann Castonguay led in recitation of the rosary and Regent Denise Rodzen called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Draping of the charter was held for deceased members Rolande Purrington and Sally Labbee. Pledge to the flag was recited Recording Secretary Jackie Castonguay, who read the minutes of the July business meeting.

Next Castonguay read the roll call of officers. Filling in for absent officers were Mariette Castonguay, in for Bea Moreau and Fern Doiron in for Past Regent Laurie Gagnepain.

A communication was received from the Salvation Army and thank-you cards received from Dobie Nickless, Harris House and Linda Ouellette.

Rodzen then spoke about a letter received by the Maine Knights of Columbus stating that there will be a women’s retreat on Oct. 25 to 27 at the Alfred Spiritual Center. The cost will be $130 for the weekend. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Derek Laliberte at 754-7719. She also read a letter she received from International Regent Christiane Chagnon.

The installation of new officers will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, followed by the October business meeting.

Rodzen then spoke to the group on how important the 40 Club is to the circle and said more members are needed. Rodzen handed the floor over to Louise Buzzell, who heads the 40 Club. There were no new members reported.

Scribe Kim Couture reported that she had put articles in the newspapers. Vice Regent Dorothy Morgan reported that she sent Masses to be said for Joe Valeriarri, Rolande Purrington, Sally Labbe and Richard Bryant.

Get-well cards were sent to Mary Chasse, Denise Gats, Pauline Roy, Irene Hebert, Anita Marchetti and Joyce Richard, thank-you to Shawn Couture Sr. for the help he gave with the Memorial Day Parade and the Blueberry Festival parade.

Fern Doiron spoke about the theme baskets for the fall bazaar. She also asked for a volunteer to sell raffle tickets for the baskets the day of the bazaar. Denise Soucy volunteered. Rodzen spoke about bringing back card playing after the monthly social. Everyone voted to do so. The meeting came to a close at 8:30.
