DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was wondering if you or your readers might know where I can purchase one of the cancer bracelets that people have. They have a different color for the different types of cancer. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. — Peg, Mexico

ANSWER: Sun Spots contacted the Dempsey Center for Hope and Healing, but they don’t have them. They suggested Positive Promotions, www.positivepromotions.com, 800-635-2666.

Readers will undoubtedly know of local sources.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have written you a few times looking for things and am in hopes that I will be lucky again.

I have a teenage son who is interested in HO trains. I am looking for some trains, scenery, buildings, trees, anything that anyone would be willing to part with at a reasonable price.

He also has an interest in N-scale trains and is looking for the same things (trains, scenery, buildings, trees, etc.) anyone might have for a fair price.

I am very grateful for your column. You really do help a lot of people. — Penny Haslett, Oxford, 207-743-5077

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I hope you can help. My brother-in-law is moving into senior housing. He has top-quality furniture for living room, dining room and bedroom, as well as housewares, such as dishes and pots and pans. All good stuff.

He would like to donate these items to a worthy cause. Do you know of an organization that can use these items, but not the Salvation Army?

Thank you for any help you can offer. — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots had difficulty reading your handwriting and hopes she got the gist of your letter correctly.

If the furniture is really good, instead of giving it away, perhaps your brother might sell it? Dan Poulin of Orphan Annie’s (96 Court St., Auburn, 782-0638) buys many things, including furniture. You might contact him for an assessment of what your brother has.

There are many charities that would like to have the dishes and household goods, but Sun Spots encourages you to get a feel for the value of these items before you take any action.

Sun Spots gives a lot of stuff to Goodwill, which uses the proceeds to help those with mental disabilities.

There are also local Catholic charities, such as Loaves & Fishes, Sabattus (call Ellie at 577-9364), and Saint Martin de Porres Bargain Basket, College and Bartlett streets, Lewiston, which is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 786-4690.

Other groups will undoubtedly write in as well.

One final idea would be to donate to a family that has lost their home by fire or flood and was not insured. The local Red Cross (United Valley Branch, 1180 Lisbon St., Suite 2, Lewiston, ME 04240, 207-874-1192) might know of someone worthy of such good stuff.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently, someone was asking for bottles and cans they could pick up for a worthy cause. I have some for them. Please call me at 782-5512.

Also, someone was asking about purchasing a harmonica. I bought one at Walmart, with instructions, for $14.95, I believe. — No Name, Auburn

ANSWER: The young man looking for bottles is Thomas Therriault, a St. Dom’s student who is going on a mission to Mississippi. You can call him at 207-933-3511.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Once again you did what you do best — you helped someone in need.

I’m the fellow who was looking for flat toothpicks. Your suggestion to go to the Walmart website paid off. I was to purchase and have delivered free to my Walmart of choice two boxes of 2,500 each.

Thank you to the person from Norway who had three boxes and the reader from Jay. I have found what I need thanks to our friend, Lady Sun Spots. — Raymond Boies, Livermore Falls

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for someone who might have seen an automobile accident that happened at about 1:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, on Lisbon Street around EZ Mart (now closed). — Joan, 782-1692
