LEWISTON — Volunteer support has been an integral part of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s services for 40 years. The program is now widely recognized as one of the most extensive, nonprofit, home health care volunteer programs in Maine.

Nine people completed the General Volunteer trainings held in July, August and September. The newest members of the volunteer team include Joanne Badger, Turner; Richard Boutilier, Bridgton; Joan Hamann, Greene; Jim McConnell, Auburn; Misty Morin, Lewiston; Beverly Robinson, West Paris; Cecile Verreault, Lewiston; Kimberly Walker, Bowdoin, and Victoria Wharton-Goodman, Minot.

Volunteer opportunities include visiting patients on home care or hospice services, providing respite for caregivers, bereavement support and facilitating grief groups, Hospice House greeters, patient support and kitchen work, grocery shopping and medication pick-up, transportation and office work. Volunteers specializing in complementary therapies such as pet therapy, Reiki, massage, music and art are welcome.

General Volunteer Training will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Bridgton Hospital, and Thursday, Oct. 31, at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Lewiston Office, 15 Strawberry Ave.

Hospice Volunteer Training will begin Oct. 7 at the Lewiston office. The program lasts six sessions.

Bereavement, Facilitator and Program for Grieving Children & Teens Volunteer Training will begin Tuesday, Oct. 8, and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Lewiston office.

Bereavement One-on-One Volunteers receive 12 hours of training. Bereavement Facilitators receive 24-hours of training. Volunteers in the Program for Grieving Children & Teens receive 30 hours of training.
