PERU — Starting Oct. 11 Family Fun Fridays will be held at the Old Peru Elementary School for children in grades K-5 in the RSU 10 area.
Each Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. there will be an event for elementary kids with a cost of $1 per kid and $1 for adults. The events will include dances, pajama movie nights, karaoke and unplugged board/card game nights.
Kindergarten and first graders will need to have a parent/adult attend every week. Parents of children in grades 2-5 may earn a PES Family Fun Night Drop Off Pass by volunteering one week for either setup, cleanup or chaperon.
Parents can communicate on the Facebook page (PES Family Fun Nights) if they would like to volunteer for an event and there will be a sign-up sheet at the entrance each week.
The night a parent volunteers they will be given a drop off pass that can be used for another event. The child will need to have a completed permission/ emergency contact slip and still pay the $1 admission when using the pass. Parents will get the opportunity to have a child-free Friday night as a reward for volunteering.
As long as there is an adult present, preschool siblings or middle school siblings are welcome to attend.
High school students looking for community service hours are encouraged to volunteer. Student volunteers will be asked to help with set-up, running the snack area, clean-up and helping on game nights.
Any middle school or high school student who would like to volunteer their time to be a disc jockey on dance/karaoke nights is asked to contact Gail True at 650-7939.
Snacks and drinks will be available for sale each week for 50 cents. Choices will include individual bags of chips, granola bars, cheese and crackers, fruit cups, Capri Sun, apple juice, Hawaiian punch and small bottles of water. On movie nights popcorn will be sold.
All admission revenues are being donated to the friends of Peru Elementary towards heating and electricity for the school. The events are being put on by two members of FPES, Gail True and Gerry Thibodeau.
Donations of kids music CDs, karaoke CDs or board games can be dropped off to PES during weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon downstairs or Thursdays from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. using the front entrance.
For item pick up, call Gail True at 650-7939 or post on the Facebook group.
