BAR HARBOR (AP) — An injured Maine hiker has been rescued from a trail in Acadia National Park, which is closed during the federal government shutdown.
A ranger says the 69-year-old Portland woman was hiking along the Flying Mountain when she fell and cut her knee and was unable to walk out. She called 911 Saturday at 11 a.m.
Only a small crew of four rangers was on site when the call came in. They contacted a local search and rescue crew and emergency responders for help.
The woman was taken to an ambulance and transported to the hospital.
Ranger Edward Pontbriand is asking people to stay off the park’s trails until the shutdown is over. He told WLBZ-TV that his small crew is not prepared for these type of operations.
