LEWISTON — The city of Lewiston’s combined sewer overflow project engineer, Jeff Beaule, was recently awarded the 2013 Charles Perry Award from the Maine Wastewater Control Association.
The award is given annually to a collections system operator or to a municipality, district, or private wastewater collection system in Maine in recognition of excellence in collection system management, operations and maintenance. The award also recognizes the extra effort and originality that is put forth in the operations of a wastewater collection system to reduce the environmental impact on a community.
Beaule’s professional career with the city began as a temporary summer student hired in 1997. Upon graduating from the University of Maine with a degree in civil engineering, he was hired as a full-time project engineer in 1999. He is the lead person managing the combined sewer overflow program for the city and has managed numerous other projects, including drinking water, sewer, storm water and road improvement projects. Beaule was also selected as Lewiston’s Employee of the Year in 2005.
Beaule’s service with the city of Lewiston is fitting with the award namesake, Charles Perry. Perry set the standard for wastewater utilities in the state of Maine by utilizing methods that were cutting edge for the time.
