Four horsemen dressed in true western garb, riding genuine broncos, jogged leisurely down Main street, Lewiston, Wednesday noon, rode up to the Riverside stables, Chapel street, swung lightly out of the saddles and went looking for dinner. These four men, real cowboys from the ranges of the middle West, were completing another stage of their around-the-union ride. The trip grows out of an argument around a cowboys’ campfire, in the state of Washington, early in 1912. It was stated by one member of the group that no horse could stand a trip around the United States, visiting every state. Beginning on May 1, 1912, they rode away from Olympia, Washington. They have now ridden a bit over 20,000 miles and have many more to cover before the journey will come to a close in Olympia.

A new arithmetic program, based on a visual concept of the subject matter, will be introduced into the Lewiston public elementary school system. The authority to go ahead was given to Schools Superintendent J. Weldon Russell last night by the Board of Education. It will be introduced In grades one, two and three this school year and extended throughout the elementary system in the years ahead until there is blanket coverage. Russell predicted that every school in the country will be using the visual concept system five years from now.

Sports fans who haven’t visited Lewiston Raceway since the record-setting spring meet should enjoy an eye-opening experience when the sport’s final session of the year unfolds Sunday afternoon. There is bright-white new fence surrounding the widened track, the newly-installed polished foundation floor nearly the entire length of the grandstand, the newly-paved entry on Main Street, the abundance of shrubs and plants around the facility, the asphalt banking outside the upper turns, added television monitors, and fresh paint on every spot a brush could reach are only high points. Looking across the track, railbird fans won’t see any of the old wooden barns that lined the west side of the large grounds. All four of the modern, cement block barns add a solid backdrop behind the paddock.
