LIVERMORE — A portion of the River Road between Center and Strickland roads will be closed to through traffic on Monday, Oct. 14, to allow a culvert to be replaced, Assistant Administrator Kurt Schaub said.

The construction will be in the vicinity of 1193 River Road, which is about a half-mile north of Strickland Ferry Road, he said Wednesday.

The work is expected to take most of the day. Local traffic will be allowed.

The Columbus Day holiday was selected by the contractor because there is no school that day, he said.

Selectpersons voted to award the job to the only bidder, Jean Castonguay Logging and Excavating of Livermore Falls, for a price of $8,410 on Monday, Schaub said.

The board also voted Monday to award a contract to R.S. Pidacks of Livermore for $6.25 a yard for 3,500 yards of winter sand delivered, mixed with salt and piled, he said. The company had the lowest of three bids.

Castonguay Logging and Excavating bid $10.50 per yard and Maynard and Sons Trucking of Sumner bid $9 per yard.

Castonguay was the low bidder of two to install three culverts on South Road for $5,664, Schaub said.

Gordon Excavating of Livermore bid $6,600.

In other business, the board voted to approve a liquor license and special amusement permit for the Carriage House Cafe on Route 4. The vote followed a public hearing. There was no public comment, he said.

Selectpersons also agreed to buy water coolers for the town Highway Garage and Transfer Station.

Schaub said he did some research into water coolers/bottled water and the best deal is with Glen Rock, which will sell the town used cold water coolers for $125 each with a one year warranty, he said.

The water is $6.50 per jug.

It would cost $10 per month each to rent coolers.

There was previous discussion on supplying the Highway Garage and Transfer Station with water coolers. The water at the Town Office was also tested. It has a new well pump and pressure tank. The test results indicated the water is safe, Schaub said.

There is no water at the Transfer Station. The Highway Garage shares a well with the library and Community Building on Church Street but periodically the water has an odor to it, he said.

The Brettuns Community Building has not been used for about five years. Voters will consider an article to demolish it at the June 2014 annual town meeting.
