1922 – 2013

NORWAY — Edwin F. Murphy Sr., 91, of Oxford, died Thursday, Oct. 10, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Norway on Jan. 18, 1922, the son of Charles and Vira Murphy. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps the day after Pearl Harbor; he was in the 1st Division at Peleliu. He married Glenna Sedgeley, of Oxford, in 1946.

Edwin was past state commandant of the Marine Corps League. He was a member of the Oxford Masonic Lodge 18 AF & AM for more than 60 years. He was also a member of the American Legion, Norway VFW, the Kora Shrine and the Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his sister, Madeline Pratt of Norway; his four children, Edwin Murphy Jr., and wife, Cathy, of Norway, Bonnie Paradis and husband, Brian, of Battle Creek, Mich., Michael Murphy of Norway and Cynde Heino and husband, Albert, of West Paris; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Glenna; his parents; five sisters; and one brother.
