The Benjamin B. Estes place in South Durham has been sold to Charles O. King. This is the first time the place has gone out of the Estes name or family. In 1770 Caleb Estes bought the land and cleared a spot and cut logs enough to make a log cabin, which they lived in for two or three years. Then they build the frame house which stands on the place now, a large two story wooden structure, with an ell and a stable which was put on about 25 years ago. Caleb Estes was the father of 11 children and a member of the society of Friends. The day he died, he said, “I have had breakfast with thee, and I have dined with thee, but I shall sup in my Father’s kingdom,” and passed away.

Citing a lack of manpower, the patrol division commander for the Lewiston Police Department today announced that the city’s Selective Enforcement Team will be disbanded at the beginning of next week. The cutback is necessitated because the number of complaints received by the department is increasing at the same time the size of the force is shrinking due to resignations and injuries. Team members, who do not respond to complaints, are needed to keep up with the stream of requests for assistance from resident son a daily basis.
