What is the best political advice you have received?

My favorite advice comes from Sir Winston Churchill who brought England, and the world through our most difficult challenge. I guess my favorite of his many great quotes is: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill

What Maine political figure do you admire most?

Angus King. I grew up in Brunswick and knew him before he was Governor. We need more Independent minded leaders who always vote their conscience instead of following party rhetoric.

What has Mayor Robert Macdonald done during the past two years that you agree with? What has he done that you disagree with?

Agree: Aggressively gone after welfare abuse. Disagree: I wish sometimes he would think before he speaks. Some of his comments have put Lewiston in a bad light.

What has the city council done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

Agree: Done a good job holding the line on taxes in light of the major cuts from the state. Disagree: They passed a resolution to Congress saying that corporations should not involve themselves in the political process without even realizing that the city of Lewiston is a corporation and by sending a resolution to Congress they are involving themselves in the political process.

What has the city administrator and the city staff done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

Agree: They have again begun to aggressively seek new business investment.There is nothing I can think of that I disagree with, I am running for school committee after all not city council.

What has the school committee done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

Agree: They stopped the redistricting plan. We need to protect neighborhood schools. Disagree: We need to put more attention on teaching kids how to think not what to think.

What should be done with Bates Mill No. 5?

Anything that doesn’t cost the city any more money.

Any last words?

My best friend, Leah Poulin served Lewiston well in this position for eight years and I hope to continue her good work for the children of Lewiston. I wish to bring my considerable computer and technology experience to the school committee. Not just to advance the education of children but to improve Power School and increase parents’ involvement in their child’s education.
