Family:

My husband and I have two children. Our oldest son just graduated from Edward Little and is now attending Dartmouth College to study engineering. Our youngest son is a sophomore at ELHS and is interested in drama and culinary arts. As a family, we enjoy the many activities offered by the Twin Cities. One of our favorite events each year is the Great Falls Balloon Festival.

Public offices sought or held?

In 2011, I ran as a write-in candidate for the school committee at-large position. This is my second time running for a public seat.

What is the best political advice you have received?

Listen to what people have to say and always have an open mind.

What Maine political figure do you admire most?

I admire Angus King for his bipartisan approach to politics. He’s an independent, with an open mind and is willing to listen and consider varying opinions. He understands the need for compromise and works toward creating policy that benefits everyone, not just the few.

What has the school committee done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

The School Committee continues to put children first and focuses on what is best for their education. The committee has embraced customized learning and has supported the professional development needs of the teachers so they can fully and successfully implement this 21st century approach to educating our children. The School Committee had to make difficult decisions this budget season to finally present a budget that was approved by the city. While the final approved budget was not what we felt was needed to fully support our children, teachers and programs, we were able to ensure that it was student focused. People and programs essential to providing our children with a great education remained intact. Moving forward, we need to communicate more successfully with our citizens. We need to find ways to share more fully what happens in our schools and how we use the funds we receive.

What is your solution for Auburn’s high school?

At this time, it is best to wait for state funding.

Any last words?

I have always been and continue to be deeply committed to providing the students of Auburn with the best possible education. I will continue to work toward that goal whether I am a part of this committee or not.
