1929 – 2013
WINTHROP — Patricia E. Pollis, 84, a former resident of Jay, died peacefully, Friday, Oct. 11, at Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center.
She was born April 12, 1929, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of R. Clifford Enstedt and Edna Bell (Morse) Enstedt. She was a 1948 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. Patty married Arthur Chase and had two daughters; they later divorced. She later married Linn Wells in 1978, and he passed a year after their marriage in 1979. On March 1, 1992, she married Leroy Pollis Sr. of Fayette; he passed away May 1, 2004.
Patty started working in her teen years at Parker’s Confectionary Stand, then as an assistant for Dr. Rowe, a clerk at Landry’s Furniture Store, Bickford’s Florist, Guy’s Florist, was also an Avon Representative; she ended her working career at Foss Jewelry Store in Livermore Falls, where she worked for 20 years before retiring. She started and ended her working career in the same building. Foss Jewelry is located where Parker’s Confectionary Stand was located.
She was a member of Business and Professional Women’s Association and Livermore Falls Camera Club. In the 1990s, she and Roy enjoyed wintering in Sebring, Fla. Having been an only child, she enjoyed the large gatherings of the Pollis family. After moving to Lavoie Street, she enjoyed monthly luncheons with her 1948 LFHS classmates. She also loved her shopping and lunching adventures with her companion, Ken Christopolous, and was very thankful for him, as well as her other Lavoie Street companions. Patty also loved her son-in-law Donald’s cooking as well as licks from her grand-dogs “Bud” and “Jax.”
She is survived by her daughters, Ilse Mercier and her husband, Donald, of Livermore Falls, Roberta Louise Bettencourt and her partner, Gary Dexter, of Bethlehem, N.H.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Shorette and her husband, Andrew, Russell Scheller and his wife, Sierra, and James Bettencourt and his wife, Katie; great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Austin Shorette; former husband, Arthur Chase and his wife, Elaine, of Fayette; and a special friendship of her Pastor of Baptism, Ed Lydecker, former pastor of Grace Baptist Church of North Jay, and his wife, Marie.
She was predeceased by her parents; half-sister, Carrie Brigg; husbands, Linn Wells and Roy Pollis; son-in-law, Arthur Bettencourt; and cousins, Rudolph and Mrytle Levebre.
