AUBURN — The Auburn Art Club began its 2013-14 season on Oct. 7. The next meeting will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the Park Avenue Methodist Church.

The speaker will be Edward Dwyer, a local resident who is an accomplished artist. The hostesses will be Judy Johnson, chairwoman, assisted by Mary Ann Norcross, Elinor Brockway and Sue Morgan.

Dwyer is a retired school administrator and a naval officer. He will be displaying examples of his watercolors, sharing how creativity and a lifelong association with art and the outdoors came about during his childhood in northern New Jersey.

Dwyer’s love of the outdoors has led to many interesting adventures. He has made many winter ascents of Mount Katahdin. He organized five back-packing trips to the Canadian Arctic, including a 34-day foray to Ellesmere Island. He has climbed all the New England 4,000-footers at least once, including 68 ascents of Mount Washington across all months under diverse weather conditions. He and his wife, Deborah, reside in Auburn.
