NORWAY — The Stone-Smart Unit 82 Auxiliary Ladies are proud to report the following accomplishments and awards received at the June convention along with upcoming news of services planned for the community.
The June convention delegates were Lucielle Allen, Joyce Clifford, Kim Hansen and Kathy Neary.
Awards received included the Golden Apple Award for outstanding education achievements supporting local children and teachers, Best Public Relations with a plaque received, Outstanding Support of Our Veterans Affairs and Voluntary Services at Togus/VAVS Chairmen Award with plaque received.
The following certificates of appreciation were received: Supporting the Emergency Fund, Community Service, Americanism Program participation, 100 Percent Membership for the Second District, Excellence for Senior Scrap Booking, and Outstanding Service and Assistance of the American Legion Auxiliary Programs and Activities.
Unit 82 received a $100 award for legislation activities in support of veterans presented to Joyce Clifford at the convention by Dora Michaud, department secretary. Joyce and Stone-Smart chose to donate the award to benefit military children.
The unit participated in a 9/11 remembrance service to honor the fallen and those heroes involved in the rescue efforts. A 9/11 remembrance flag and posters were hung in recognition. Several members of the Auxiliary and one member of the VFW stood for the hour on Sept. 11 with hand-held flags and were pleased to have many passersby acknowledge their presence.
October is Education Month for the American Legion Auxiliary organization throughout the nation. The Stone-Smart unit is collecting school supply items for donation to the Guy E. Rowe Elementary School.
