Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular

PARIS — The McLaughlin Garden will be the scene of a Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and 26. Carved pumpkins will line the garden walkways. The nighttime display of traditional and innovative designs will be for young and old alike.

Pumpkins will be carved by students on the arts team at Oxford Hills Middle School, North Campus, coordinated by Guidance Counselor Carlene Treadwell. Local artists and other individuals will also create jack-o-lanterns for the display.

Anyone who would like to donate a carved pumpkin to the event is entitled to free admission. Drop it off at the McLaughlin garden by Friday morning, Oct. 25. It may be picked up on Sunday if desired for use on Halloween. Everyone is welcome.

Admission prices are: $4, adults; $2, children age 6-17; free, children 5 and under. There will be free popcorn and cider. Darling’s Photo Booth (http://www.darlingsphotobooth.com/) will be on the premises for free downloadable photos.

Lions to host Texas Hold’em Tourney

HARRISON — The Harrison Lions Club will  host a Texas Hold’em Tournament from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the VFW Hall, 176 Waterford Road. There will be an $80 entry fee.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and there will be food and refreshments available. The event is limited to 100 players.

Proceeds will go to provide services that the Lions Club provides to the community.

Girl Scouts to hold info meeting

BETHEL — Girl Scouts of Maine will host parent information and registration meetings in the area as follows:

Monday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m.: Woodstock Elementary School.

Tuesday, Oct. 29, at  6 p.m.: Crescent Park Elementary School, Bethel.

Girls and adults are invited to attend either meeting to find out about the ways today’s girls are participating in Girl Scouting and how the programs and activities inspire them to reach their personal best. Participants will also learn about the flexible options and benefits of becoming a Girl Scout volunteer.

Lewiston Bridge Club winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners of the annual Club Appreciation Game at the Lewiston Armory on Oct. 15 were as follows: first, Ellie and Lindy Wigton; second, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; third, Les Buzzell and Mike True; fourth, Jeanine Kivus and Fred Letourneau; fifth, Donna Bartlett and Sue Kaluzynski; first in B and C, Ellie and Lindy Wigton; second, Donna Bartlett and Sue Kaluzynski; third, Bill Clifford and David Lock.

Haunted Hayrides in Buckfield

BUCKFIELD — Buckfield Jr. Sr. High School’s Class of 2014 will hold fundraiser Haunted Hayrides from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 24 and 25, at Bessey Field, Paris Hill Road, Buckfield. Cost is $5.

Food Pantry is open Friday

OTISFIELD — The Food Pantry will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, Rayville Road. The pantry is open on the fourth Friday of every month. For more information, call 539-4619.

CPR and first aid class on Sunday

OXFORD — An American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR and first aid class will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Oxford Public Safety Building, Route 26.

The one-day course includes basic first aid, CPR for adults, children and infants and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

A two-year certificate will be awarded and is accepted for day/child care providers, loggers, guides, teachers and any other non-healthcare related professions.

Future classes will be held Nov. 23 and Dec. 14. Call to confirm dates. Groups may request to schedule a class at their convenience.
