Hebron Academy community members recently stood in the shape of a pink ribbon on campus to celebrate and show solidarity for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Additionally, students participated in Portland radio station Q97.9’s Cans for a Cure can and bottle drive, rallying the community to donate a ton of cans to the cause. The efforts garnered nearly $500 toward Cans for a Cure — an estimated 10,000 cans. Radio personality Lori Voornas of Q97.9 paid Hebron Academy a personal visit on October 17 when she pulled up in a pink ribbon truck to collect the bags of redeemables. Hebron helped the radio station achieve their $25,000 Cans for a Cure goal, the proceeds of which were distributed between The Maine Cancer Foundation in Falmouth and the Cancer Community Center in South Portland.
