LePage supporting Maine charity basketball tourney

AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage invites Maine residents to participate in a basketball tournament next month that raises money for children impacted by domestic violence.

The Republican governor is joining the Maine Athletic Club and Maine Swish basketball team on Thursday at the Augusta YMCA to encourage people to sign up for the Taylor Tip-Off Tournament.

This year’s tournament is Nov. 10 and games will take place in Falmouth and Waterville.

The tournament has raised more than $57,000 for children who have lost parents by acts of domestic violence.

LePage’s office says the tournament was started in 2009 to help support the children of Kenny Taylor, the assistant coach of the Maine Swish basketball team, who committed suicide after murdering his wife.
