LISBON — A local man and woman were charged with civil violations stemming from an attack by two dogs that killed six chickens and a turkey.

Brittney Volovar, 18, of King Road let the male and female dogs, both young retriever mixes, out of the home of their owner, Ronald Bolduc, 41, in the evening last weekend, said Jeff Cooper, the town’s humane officer.

When she returned outside after going back inside to get her cellphone, the dogs had disappeared, Cooper said.

A neighbor saw one of the dogs with a chicken clasped in its jaws and called the home of the chicken’s owner, Dennis Sanborn.

His daughter answered the phone, then called police and let her parents, who were dining out, know what happened.

Cooper said Volovar received a summons on a charge of having dogs at large. Two summonses for keeping dangerous dogs and for having unlicensed dogs were issued to Bolduc, Cooper said.

Sanborn said that when he and his wife returned home, the scene was worse than he expected, with feathers everywhere. In all, six chickens and one turkey were “mangled.” A second turkey was badly injured.

Sanborn said he took the wounded bird to the Lisbon Road Animal Hospital where its extensive injuries were treated; leaving him with a $71 bill.

Cooper said the dogs hadn’t been reported to police before this incident.
