ARUNDEL (AP) — Officials are investigating a late-night single-vehicle accident in southern Maine that killed a 26-year-old Sanford man.
The York County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were called to an accident around midnight Saturday in which a car had failed to negotiate a curve and struck a utility pole on Log Cabin Road in Arundel.
Officials say 26-year-old Brian Hem, who was a passenger in the car, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say it appears he was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver, 31-year-old Brian Roche, of Old Orchard Beach, was transported to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
