During elections, voters make decisions on who they think will best represent their beliefs. Congresspeople try to do what they are sent to do. Later, the free-thinkers align with the good old boys to gain public attention, power, full health insurance and regular cost of living pay increases that they feel they deserve.

Working people must perform work to a certain standard in order to keep their jobs, to get paid, earn raises. We have to “show it” and be evaluated by others (no automatic cost of living increases). We have to spend a great part of our income for health insurance that is now (at best) partial coverage overall, or go without.

We pay into Social Security, plus need a retirement savings account, all from our own income. Members of Congress get retirement funds over and above their pay, for life.

After a second round of fist-pumping and back-slapping in front of cameras, Congresspeople are acting like they saved the country at the last minute; however, we know the latest is only another postponement.

Congress and the president have brought shame and distrust upon us all.

Congress and the president were not working together for the good of the country. They were furthering their own agendas.

I will not forget the shame and dismay.

We need fresh thinkers to work at bringing back the pride in being an American.
