I am aware that the city of Auburn is in a dispute as to whether the vacated Ingersoll Arena should be turned over to the Auburn Recreation Department or if it should be closed and uninhabited.
I hope that Clinton Deschene, Auburn city manager, will take into consideration the need for a safe and productive place for the community’s children and adults to pursue safe and productive activities. A community’s best asset is its children.
As city manager, Deschene not only manages the city’s taxes, he manages its resources. Generation after generation have utilized Pettengill Park as a resource. I would be unhappy to think that resource was lost.
I hope he considers keeping the ice arena available to the community and the children who will benefit from it the most.
