AUGUSTA — Maine lawmakers will consider expanding Medicaid and replacing a troubled program that provides rides to medical appointments for Mainers among other bills next session.

The Legislative Council, the 10-member bipartisan group of House and Senate floor leaders and presiding officers, approved about 100 of nearly 400 bills for consideration when the Democratic-controlled Legislature returns in January.

That doesn’t include about 200 bills carried over from last session and those yet to be introduced by Gov. Paul LePage’s administration.

Among those approved are measures to expand Medicaid coverage under the federal Affordable Care Act, a plan that Republican Gov. Paul LePage has vetoed twice. Another measure would replace the current transportation system for people in the Medicaid program, which has recently received a slew of complaints of missed and delayed rides.
