1937 – 2013

LIVERMORE — Robert L. Whitley, 76, a resident of Norlands Road, Livermore, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, at his home, following a lingering illness.

He was born in South Paris on May 6, 1937, the son of Wilber and Madelyn (Bell) Whitley. He was a graduate of South Paris High School. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-64. On June 18, 1988, he married Carolyn S. Leighton of Calais.

Robert worked for Smith’s Shop ‘n Save in South Paris and Wells Woodworking in Buckfield. He enjoyed fishing and watching all sports, especially the Red Sox.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carolyn S. Whitley, of Livermore; a son, Mark Whitley and his wife, Michelle, of South Hampton, N.H.; his stepsons, Robert Tozier and his wife, Deidra, of Jay, Lewis Tozier and his partner, Beth Hayne, of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Francis McLaughlin of Topsham; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles Whitley and partner, Stephanie Small, of Melbourne, Fla., and William Whitley and his wife, Judy, of Vassalboro.

He was predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Lisa Whitley.
