ROCKLAND — A 43-year-old Augusta man — who was convicted seven years ago for sexually assaulting a 17-month-old boy in Rockland — will serve up to 90 more days in jail under an agreement negotiated between the state and defense.
George W. Gossage admitted Wednesday to violating his probation by failing to update his address in Augusta for the state’s sex offender registry.
His probation officer filed the notice of violation in May, initially citing him for two violations — failing to inform the probation officer of a change of address and failing to update the address for the sex offender registry. Under the agreement reached Wednesday in Knox County Superior Court between the defense and prosecution, sentencing will be postponed for six months. The case was heard in Knox County where the initial crime occurred.
If Gossage refrains from any further violation during those six months, he will be sentenced to no more than 90 days in jail. His attorney can argue for less time when the sentencing hearing is held in six months.
Gossage was convicted in 2006 of unlawful sexual contact for assaulting a 17-month-old boy he had been babysitting. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison with all but four years suspended and was placed on probation for eight years.
