1932 – 2013

CANTON — Richard H. “Buddy” Swan, 81, of Dixfield, died Saturday morning, Nov. 2, at the Victorian Villa.

He was born in Dixfield on July 18, 1932, a son of Stanley and Isa (Horne) Swan. He received his education in local schools and was a 1950 graduate of Dixfield High School. On Jan. 27, 1951, he married Janice Dolloff at the Mexico Congregational Church.

Always an outdoorsman, “Buddy” enjoyed cutting wood, working for Timberlands, and working for his dad and becoming the owner of R&S Sand and Gravel in Dixfield. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and for many years played on the local baseball and hockey teams (aka: The Cardiac League). He was always a member of Red Sox Nation and would have been proud of their 2013 World Series title.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice, of Dixfield; twins sons, Dennis Swan of Dixfield and his girlfriend, Denice Harkness, of Rumford, and David Swan of the Harris House in Livermore Falls; a daughter-in-law, Carol Swan of Dayton; one brother, Cary Swan and his wife, June, of Bar Harbor; three aunts, Helen, Ruby and Jean; and a sister-in-law, Charlene; seven grandchildren, Tim Swan and his children, Nicole and Tyler, Sam Swan and his son, Camden, Mark Swan, Melissa Swan and her children, Michael, Marissa and Christopher, Amanda Barker and her husband, Matthew, Elizabeth Swan and Doug Swan; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his folks; a son, Brian Swan, who died in 2008; and a brother, Stanley “Sonny” Swan Jr.
