BUCKFIELD — Selectmen decided Tuesday night to hire Rhino-Seal Asphalt Maintenance of Dixfield to seal cracks in town roads.

Town Manager Dana Lee recommended the town continue to use the company because of its high-quality work and because it stands behind it.

Selectmen said it’s important to get this work done quickly.

Another bid from an out-of-state company did not include the required proof of insurance.

Road Committee member Jerry Wiley reported the panel favored cutting back on work rather than exceeding the budget.

Selectmen agreed. They recommended placing the binder course on Purkis Road this year. The surface course will be a high priority for next year.

Several appointments were made, including Mike Iveson to the Planning Board for five years and to the Ordinance Committee for three years. His wife, Janet, was appointed to the newly formed Economic Development Committee for three years. Hope Raymond was reappointed to the Planning Board for five years.

Selectmen approved the proposed bylaws for the Fire-Rescue Station Building Committee. Lee will serve as liaison between selectmen and the committee.

Those appointed Tuesday are fire Chief Tim Brooks, Rescue Chief Lisa Bennett, Assistant Rescue Chief Gene Bell, Assistant fire Chief Floyd Richardson and Treasurer Cindy Dunn. They are all town employees and are serving as unpaid volunteers.

There is still one opening on the committee.

Lee said residents who would like to serve on town committees should get an application at the Town Office.

He also announced that members of the Rescue Department moved their office to the second floor of the Municipal Building in preparation for the demolition of the old station.

Voters in June approved spending $1.2 million for a new station. The 80- by 100-foot building will replace the 62-year-old station on Route 117.
