PERU — Residents voted 158-142 Tuesday to allow the Board of Selectmen to take $40,000 from the revaluation reserve account and money from surplus to hire an independent appraiser in 2014, Town Clerk Vera Parent said.
The referendum question asked residents whether or not they wished to allow the town to take $40,000 from the revaluation reserve account and money from surplus to hire an independent appraiser for all town real estate and personal property.
“The selectmen will probably work putting together a bid package and send it out early next spring,” Parent said. “After that, they’ll post it throughout the state.”
In a previous interview, Parent said that the townwide revaluation will probably cost more than $100,000.
The last time Peru did a revaluation was in 1999, which took effect in 2000.
