RUMFORD — The Rumford United Methodist Church will host its annual Homemade for the Holidays Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in the church’s fellowship hall.

Kathy Crump, a member of the Rumford United Methodist Church, said this is 16th year helping with the Homemade for the Holidays Fair.

“It’s always been a church tradition to do a fair before the holidays like this,” Crump said. “It’s still very popular for us.”

Many features from previous years will be making a return, she said, including gift baskets with different themes.

“The gift baskets are something new that we came up with, and it’s become wildly popular,” she said. “All the gals here come up with their own theme and then we put together a gift basket to fit that theme. We’ll get people coming in saying, ‘Oh, my aunt so-and-so loves tea,’ and they’ll be able to pick up the tea-themed gift basket.”

Among the other gift baskets that Crump said the church will feature this year are a gardener’s basket, two soup baskets, movie night baskets, a variety of bath baskets and pet baskets.

The fair will also see the return of the Krafter’s Korner, where people can purchase anything they need.

A Christmas and Crafts Table will feature potholders, crochet-topped kitchen towels, cotton dishcloths, aprons, microwave corn bags and fleece mittens.

A corn chowder lunch will be provided by Judy Kuhn and others.

Crump said over the years the church has faced challenges in setting up the fair.

“A lot of church-goers, not just at our church but at churches all over, have been going through a transformation,” she said. “A lot of our members are older now, so we’re trying to do the same thing each year with less people.”

But the number of people from the River Valley who attend the fair has has stayed the same, she said.

“I think we’ve always had a really good turnout at our craft fairs,” Crump said. “It’s never just church people. We get all kinds of people showing up.”
