1946 – 2013

AUBURN — Stephen J. Adamson Sr., 67, of Mechanic Falls, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 6, at the Androscoggin Hospice House.

He was born in Boston, Mass., on Feb. 5, 1946, the son of Edmund and Doris Salie Adamson. He attended Winthrop, Mass., schools and graduated from Winthrop High School in the Class of 1965. He attended the University of Wyoming, where he played football and was on an undefeated team that went to the Sugar Bowl that year. He is in the Winthrop High School and University of Wyoming halls of fame. At age 45, he played football for the Maine Lions.

Steve was co-owner of Central Building Salvage in Everett, Mass., and for many years owned and operated SJA and Sons in Mechanic Falls. He was a member of the Mechanic Falls recreation committee and was instrumental in building the baseball fields and hockey rink in Mechanic Falls. He was an assistant football coach at Edward Little High School for several years. Steve loved to cook and spend time with his family and many friends from all over the country. On Sept. 15, 1973, he married Cathy Wheeler.

Survivors include his wife of Mechanic Falls; three sons, Joel of Winthrop, Mass., Jason and his wife, Gina, of Holliston, Mass., and Stephen Jr. and his fiancée, Becky Fyfe, of Auburn; four grandchildren, Kyle, Hannah, Emma and Jay; a brother, Edmund, of Winthrop, Mass.; three sisters, Joyce Ferrara and her husband, Paul, of Winthrop, Mass., Cheryl Adamson of West Springfield, Mass., and Kathleen Ekaidat and her husband, Hannan, of Winthrop, Mass.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, William; and a sister, Valerie DePippo.
