You may not yet be familiar with the band’s name, but if you have ever gone out for live bar music in Lewiston or Auburn, you’ve probably caught one of their shows and experienced their bouncy, fiendishly catchy songs and tight musicianship.
The band was previously known as The Repeat Offenders, a name already being used by a number of bands around the U.S. The group consists of four veterans of the central Maine bar band scene who have had a couple of personnel changes since the band was formed in 2008.
The difference between A Mighty Lion’s rock-reggae and traditional Caribbean reggae music lies mainly in tempo and, to a lesser extent, ferocity. Their songs are a bit faster than what one might expect from an authentic Jamaican reggae group. And while A Mighty Lion is not a loud band, their arrangement of two guitars, bass and drums creates a sound more sonically associated with American rock than lilting, don’t-worry-be-happy island music.
Tickets are $5 at the door. The Franco Center’s Heritage Hall is accessed on the Oxford Street side of the building. Doors open at 7 p.m.
