MEXICO — The Mexico Police Department received a grant through the Mexico Walmart’s Local Giving Program, interim police Chief Roy Hodsdon said Friday.

Hodsdon said that the $750 wellness grant, which is awarded to groups within the community to promote health and wellness, will go towards purchasing new fitness equipment for officers to use during their downtime.

“Right now, we’re planning on purchasing some cardio equipment for our officers to use to stay moving, even during the slow parts of the day,” Hodsdon said. “We’re looking at ellipticals and maybe some self-defense equipment.”

Hodsdon added that they may purchase gym mats so his officers can do push-ups and sit-ups.

“I think it’s a great way to focus on staying healthy within the department,” Hodsdon said.
