1927 – 2013

FAIRBANKS — Alice E. Parlin, 86, passed away at her home in Fairbanks on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Alice was born in Strong on July 25, 1927, the daughter of Jack and Pearl (Von Sotta) Hagerstrom. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1945. On Oct. 4, 1946, she married her soulmate, Robert “Lefty” Parlin, and they raised three children.

Alice enjoyed traveling and family reunions, and was well-known for her beautiful flower gardens and her whoopie pies.

Alice is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bob; three children, Janis Haggan and her husband, Barry, Vicki Hardy and her husband, Timmy, and Gary Parlin and his wife, Sharon; five grandchildren, Barry “Rocky” Haggan, Tammy Cowans, Tim “T.D.” Hardy, Kaitlyn Bruder and Cole Parlin; eight great-grandchildren, Kyle and Shania Haggan, Dylan and Keira Cowans, Jackson and Benjamin Hardy and Colby and Chase Bruder; her brother, John Hagerstrom and wife, Louise; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alice was predeceased by her sisters, Mildred Bird and Mabel Blanchard; and grandson, Shawn Haggan.

The family would like to thank the staff of Beacon Hospice for their wonderful care and kindness. Also, thanks to all the special caregivers who made it possible for Alice to stay at home.
