OTISFIELD — The Board of Selectmen turned down a request last week by a former Conservation Commission member to be reappointed.
Pixie Williams resigned earlier this year but asked in a letter last week to be reinstated. She served as chairman of the committee in 2012. For several years, Williams also served on the Casco Conservation Committee as a natural history adviser.
Although the Board of Selectmen does not have a written policy on reappointments, selectmen said it has been tradition that once a member leaves a board, they do not reappoint them.
“It doesn’t mean they can’t attend all the meetings,” Selectman Rick Micklon.
He called Williams a “relentless volunteer.”
“If we said yes to her, we’d leave ourselves open to others we said ‘no’ to,” Micklon said.
“This is our policy,” Chairman Hal Ferguson said. He said it doesn’t mean that a future board may feel the same way. But this board has rejected reappointment on at least three other occasions, he said.
The board made a motion and unanimously agreed not to reappoint Williams and to send her a letter of thanks for her ongoing efforts.
